APU (Arondizuogu Patriotic Union) was started at Aba and not Arondizuogu on October 8th 1932.This historical event took place at the residence of Mazi Robert Amakwe. APU's first executives were chosen at this meeting. Mazi David Mbadiwe was selected as Chairman or President General, Mazi John. Okereke as Secretary and Mazi Robert Amakwe as Treasurer and Assistant Secretary. This inaugural meeting had a high turnout of delegates from different parts of Nigeria. Those in attendance include delegates from Onitsha, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Aba, Umuahia, Uzuakoli and Arondizuogu. Some of the notable delegates at the meeting were: Chief Imo Ozuomba, Mazi Okwuegbunam, Mazi Igwe Udoji and Mazi L.N. Obioha. These were our progenitors who initiated the formation of APU. APUNCNA was a concept that was floated within APU NY,NJ, and CT in the early to mid nineties. A couple of meetings were organized by APU NY, NJ and CT and drew attendance from Arondizuogu members and organizations in Atlanta, Houston, and Washington, DC areas. Unfortunately, the idea failed to materialize into a structured national organization. By the late nineties similar meeting was held again in the Washington DC area and at this time, members agreed to go ahead and structure a new national organization. The test for this organization was in the first national convention held in Houston in the Millennium year 2000. This convention drew Arondizuogu people from all over the United States and Nigeria. It became very clear that there was a burning desires to unite our people under one umbrella. APUNCNA was born. Since the landmark convention in Houston, Texas in the year 2000, APUNCNA has successfully conducted many more national conventions.
APUNCNA is a 501 C 3 organization. Donations made to APUNCNA are tax-deductible. Its current focus is on eliminating illiteracy in our community.
